No Mannequins, Please

Thinking about the great job search (and, on a random note, listening to some Rilo Kiley, mm). Thanks to Ashley (Prof.Pigford), this is one of my favorite design quotes, which was my inspiration in writing my graduation speech:

Too often [design graduates] and their work emerge as charming mannequins, voiceless mouthpieces for the messages of ventriloquist clients. Let us instead give designers their voices so they may participate and contribute more fully in the world around them.

-Katherine McCoy, "Good Citizenship: Design as a Social & Political Force"

Although I know I'm still trying to find my voice, I hope I never become voiceless. I hope none of us do : )

Plus, I think mannequins are creepy.
